OPS-SAT VOLT
The OPS-SAT concept has been adopted by the ESA ARTES ScyLight Strategic Programme Line for a mission dedicated to testing new optical and quantum communication technologies, called OPS-SAT VOLT. It is designed with in-flight experimentation in mind, the mission offering reconfigurable payloads that enable in-orbit testing and demonstration of optical and quantum communications, as well as other advanced payloads like cameras, imagers and FPGAS. Half of the mission’s time will be allocated to OPS-SAT Space Lab co-ordinated experiments. The UK, Poland and their respective industry have invested over 17 million euros in VOLT, and Craft Prospect will serve as the project’s prime contractor.
OPS-SAT VOLT aims to:
- Capture Space Imagery: Conduct advanced imaging experiments to capture high-resolution photos and videos of space
- Conduct Advanced Space Communication: Explore groundbreaking optical and quantum communication technologies for secure and efficient data transmission
- Expand Computing Limits: Experience cutting-edge onboard software and hardware experiments that enhance satellite performance and reliability
